What to expect

Join us for a weekend of unforgettable paddling and wildlife experiences along the stunning North Pembrokeshire coastline! Each day is a self-contained trip, we choose a different location and route to match the weather, tides, and the skills and aspirations of the group. The route could be anywhere between Mwnt towards the east end of the north coast and Abereiddy at the west end. We may decide upon a one-way trip, or a return trip from the starting point. Whatever the route, we will encounter a mixture of rock hopping, caves, and beach or rocky landings. We may also have the chance to play in swell or surf (up to 1 metre high). Wildlife encounters could include Atlantic grey seals, porpoises, oyster catchers, razor bills and guillemots; and the rock formations on this stretch of the coastline date back several hundred million years! This trip is designed for paddlers with some previous kayaking experience, but we will provide some coaching at the start of each day, and tips along the way, to help you make the most of the conditions and features we experience. At the upper end of conditions, we might paddle in wind of 18mph, swell or surf height around 1m, and currents of 2 knots (i.e. ‘moderate’ water). We will not be paddling in tide races or overfalls. To join the trip you must have the following paddling experience (if you are not sure, or borderline, please contact us to discuss): - At least 2 days sea kayaking or white water kayaking (grade 2) in the past 12 months (in a kayak with a spraydeck) - Completed at least two capsizes and wet exits (you do not need to be able to self-rescue or roll) - Wind above Beaufort 3 (so, 13 mph+) - Swell of 0.5 metre - Current faster than 0.5 knot Included in the fee is the kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, helmet and dry bag, or you are welcome to use your own provided it is in seaworthy condition. You must provide your own clothing and footwear. Accommodation is not included but there will be plenty of available options this time of year. We will let you know the meeting location for the first day at least 24 hours before hand, and there will be a WhatsApp group for communication and sharing photos.
